"WE WILL BE ONE"

a new original song commisioned for the Grow Together campaign

written by our own A.J. Navarro, Sarah Ortiz, and Jordan Bryant

recorded by The Common.

In April of 2026, Valerie asked if we could write a song for the Grow Together campaign.

I’ve had the opportunity to write and perform music with different artists throughout the San Antonio, and a few years ago, Sarah and I even wrote and released an original song just for fun. But I’ve always wanted to write something for the modern worship community. Having the opportunity to write something not only for the Modern Service, but for our whole church, was special.

As I started writing, I kept coming back to what it really means to "grow together." Church is more than a place where we worship. It’s a place where we belong, support one another, celebrate together, and walk through life together. That idea became the heart of “We Will Be One.” No matter our story or where we are in our journey, we all have a place here.

That message is also what I love about the Grow Together campaign. Yes, we’re raising funds and improving our campus, but more importantly, we’re growing together as a community.

I had doubts along the way and wondered if I was even on the right track. I also knew I didn’t want to do it alone. So, I brought in Sarah Ortiz and Jordan Bryant. They’re both musical ninjas! Jordan helped bring the lyrics and melody to life, and Sarah took everything we created and made it shine through her incredible production skills.

After about four months of work, we’re finally here. We’re excited to share a song that has become very special to us and, we hope, represents who we are as a church.

We’re not just building better spaces. We’re building a stronger community. We put a lot of heart into this song, and we hope it brings you as much joy as it brought us while creating it.

Modern Worship Director

Like AJ, I also work in the secular world, producing music for artists and musicians in many different genres. So, when he approached me about this opportunity, I was really excited to be part of something different. A song that we could not only use for the Grow Together campaign, but also for our modern worship services in general.

It was a long process, with many long days and nights working alongside some of the best musicians and engineers. Jordan, AJ, and I are incredibly fortunate to call these people close friends and to have the opportunity to work with them so often. If I may, I’d like to take a moment to recognize each of them.

Dave Brown (Lost in Sound Studios) - engineered A.J.'s drums and played bass

Jordan Bryant - sang lead vocals and co-wrote the song

Josh Cavazos - played piano and strings

Glen Mead - played electric guitar

Laura Pendley - sang backing vocals

Darrell Smith - played acoustic guitar

This collaboration was so much fun, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who helped bring this song to life. It’s something we’re proud of, and I hope it’s something we can continue to do together in the future.
