WEEKDAY SCHOOL

A creative place to develop and grow.

Parents Day Out Program: 6 weeks to 2 year olds

Preschool Program: 3 to 5 year olds

Welcome!

At Alamo Heights United Methodist Church Weekday School we offer young children a loving, Christian, semi-structured play school with flexibility and spontaneity. Our staff is creative and they treat each child as if he or she was their own. We follow a schedule in each room that the children can depend on and are always seeking ways to encourage the children to explore and develop their personalities.

Our purpose is to provide a Christian environment that is safe and conducive to good health where children work and play together. Our aim is to offer opportunities for the children to grow intellectually, physically, socially, and spiritually. We hope to achieve these goals by encouraging an enthusiasm for learning through:

  • sharing a daily time of devotion through Bible stories and chapel experiences
  • giving each child an awareness of God's love for him/her
  • "hands on" exploring
  • activities which develop large and small muscle coordination and motor skill
  • participating in group experiences, sharing and playing together

Parents Day Out Program

This program offers young children from six (6) weeks through two (2) years of age the opportunity to interact with their peers so that they can begin to learn about sharing and caring for others.

Our classrooms use the Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers, and Two's to help plan and implement rich, developmentally appropriate lessons that incorporate best practices and reflect how young children develop and learn.

Preschool Program

The Preschool program offers children ages three (3) through five (5) readiness opportunities to prepare them for kindergarten. Our classrooms use The Creative Curriculum for Preschool as a foundation to incorporate these ten (10) areas of development and learning:

  • Social-Emotional
  • Physical
  • Language
  • Cognitive
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Science and Technology
  • Social Studies
  • The Arts
  • Receptive and Expressive Language Skills

The classrooms offer several different learning centers and throughout the year they are exposed to numerous units of study which challenge their creative and academic development. In addition to classroom activities, the children go to Music class and Motor Movement class. We have a unique outdoor playground that offers a variety of play equipment.

The children begin each day in chapel. We sing songs, hear stories about Jesus and learn the importance of prayer in our lives. Our intention is to welcome young children to God's family during our chapel time.
