Frequently Asked Questions:
We are a protestant denomination with the mission of making disciples of Jesus the Christ for the transormation of the world. The United Methodist Church was formed in 1968 by uniting The Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church. The roots of Methodism can be traced to the revival movement of John and Charles Wesley in 18th century England. For more information about the United Methodist Church, click here.
Absolutely not! The United Methodist Church practices open doors, open hearts, and open minds. Expect to be welcomed and accepted just as you are. If someone does not feel welcomed or accepted in our community, we want to know about it and work to change it.
For our visitors, we don’t want you to feel like anything is expected of you. We want you to feel like our guests—and we promise not to put you on the spot while you are visiting or stalk you after you leave. What we do expect from everyone is a baseline of loving and accepting all people. We are committed to openly and lovingly journeying together.
Without question—and if for any reason, you do not feel that is the case, please talk to us about it. If anyone does not feel welcome or accepted in our community, we feel that is our problem and we want to know about it and work to change it.
Expect to be welcomed and accepted just as you are. AHUMC offers Sanctuary worship services at 8:30 and 11 a.m. every Sunday. Our sanctuary services include prayer, teaching, and congregational singing led with choirs, piano, and a pipe organ. All of our worship services last about an hour.
Absolutely! United Methodists celebrate communion at an open table. All are welcome. There are no conditions. There is also no minimum age. The love of God is free and open to all and we demonstrate this belief in Communion.
Anyone wishing to be baptized or have their child baptized, can be baptized in the United Methodist Church, except those who have already been baptized. As we understand baptism to be an act of God, it is complete and need not be repeated.
If you are interested in pursuing baptism for yourself or your child, visit our baptism page.
AHUMC has Induction Loop technology in a large section of the main Sanctuary for those who have compatible hearing aids. Our entire main Sanctuary is also covered by an assisted listening system that is available to individuals upon request. Please speak to any usher about how to access these systems. AHUMC does not offer ASL interpretation at this time.
Absolutely. We offer both nursery childcare and a wonderful Children’s Ministry for ages 2 through 11.
Our Youth Ministry also offers classes and gatherings for Grades 6 through 12.
AHUMC and the Rio Texas Conference have partnered with Safe Gatherings to screen and train staff and volunteers who work with children, youth, and vulnerable adults. Thorough background checks and extensive training are employed to help keep our kids and vulnerable adults safe. Every person at AHUMC who works with children, youth, and/or vulnerable adults must be certified every two years.
No matter where you park, head toward the atrium—the three-story tower of windows in the middle of the building. Our Hospitality Team will meet you there and help you get where you need to go.
There is an opportunity to join AHUMC at every service.
You are invited to come forward during the closing song. You can also fill out the "JOIN" card located in the attendance pad or send us an e-mail.
Whether you are interested in learning more about the AHUMC community, have recently become a member, or are interested in church membership, we hope that you will join us for "Lunch With the Pastors."
