Holy Week at AHUMC

You're invited to join us on a journey that begins with the triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, continues with the observance of Seder, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday, and concludes with a celebration of the resurrection on Easter Sunday.

We hope everyone takes time throughout the week to commemorate the significance of these events, recognizing that we can only get from Palm Sunday to Easter by walking through everything the week holds.

PALM SUNDAY IN THE SUN

April 2

Sanctuary Service | 8:45 and 11 a.m.

Outdoor Modern Service | 11 a.m.

Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter and signifies the beginning of Holy Week.

On this day we remember and celebrate Jesus' entrance into Jerusalem. As Jesus rode into the town a large crowd gathered and laid palm branches. In the simplest of terms, Palm Sunday is an opportunity to reflect upon the final week of Jesus’ life.

Worship includes a children's procession of palms.

Nursery and Sunday school is available.

AHUMC Kids: EGG HUNT

April 2

Egg Hunt begins 12 p.m.

Join us for a fun morning of activities for kids, a photo booth, and an egg hunt for toddlers thru 5th grade.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO HELP?

We need LOTS of eggs!

Bring your filled eggs to the atrium or children's wing by Sunday, March 26.

TAIZÉ SERVICE

April 5

Service in the Garden Chapel | 6:30 p.m.

Please join us for this meditative prayer service that features singing, scripture, and silence in the Taizé style of worship.

All are welcome.

PASSOVER SEDER

April 6

Seder Meal in the CLC | 5:15 p.m.

The Passover Seder is a family-friendly meal that retells and re-enacts the story of the Exodus. The original Passover revealed one kind of liberation—liberation from slavery in Egypt. The holy meal we share reveals a liberation from the games of rivalry, domination, and competition we all play in an effort to reach the top of the pyramid.

This meal celebrates a new model of aliveness—a model of service, of self-giving, of being blessed, broken, and given for the well-being of others.

Children are welcome!

MAUNDY THURSDAY

April 6

Sanctuary Service | 7 p.m.

Maundy Thursday gets its name from the Latin word "mandatum," meaning "commandment."

On this day we remember the emancipation of the Israelites from Egypt and the Last Supper, when Jesus washed the feet of the disciples and called us to be people of love.

Worship includes Holy Communion.

Childcare is available for children under age 10.

GOOD FRIDAY

April 7

Sanctuary Service | 7 p.m.

On Good Friday, we are prepared for the mystery of Easter as we remember the great love and sacrifice of Jesus.

New Zion Youth Choir will lead us in through the story of Christ's suffering and death on the cross.

Childcare is available for children under age 10.

EASTER SUNDAY

April 9

Sanctuary Service | 8:45 and 11 a.m.

Modern Service | 9:45 a.m.

On Easter morning we celebrate the Resurrection with modern worship at 9:45 a.m. in the Christian Life Center and traditional worship at 8:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary. Join us as we proclaim that "Christ is risen. Christ is risen, indeed!"

Nursery and Sunday school is available.
