Taizé Worship to Celebrate 25 Years on December 4!

You are invited to attend a very special Service in the Style of Taizé on Wednesday, December 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Garden Chapel! This candlelit time of worship has been offered monthly on the first Wednesday at AHUMC since September 1999.

Prayer in the Style of Taizé is a meditative type of worship that incorporates beautiful repetitive songs based on scripture, brief scripture readings, and a short time of silence that invite prayer of the heart. Holy Communion is also offered along with a prayerful candlelighting opportunity. Our order of worship is based on the ones used by the ecumenical Christian Community of Taizé in France.

The Taize Community in France was founded by Brother Roger Schultz, a Swiss protestant who wanted to bring reconciliation between Protestants and Catholics following World War II. Today there are over 100 Brothers plus an order of Sisters, all who minister to many thousands of young people (age 18-35) each summer who come from all over the world for retreat and worship with the Community. The Taizé Community is an ecumenical order of Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox Christians.

The AHUMC Taizé Ensemble includes Rev. Donna Strieb, Carr Hornbuckle, Dan St. Romain, Carol Jeffries-Horner, and Bette Richards. The group has been leading this worship since it began. Rev. Janet Weatherston assists with worship and Rick Alvarez provides live-streaming/recording.

We invite you to join us December 4 in a time of quiet refuge from the busyness of everyday life as we celebrate our 25th Anniversary and focus on the Season of Advent. A time of fellowship and refreshment will follow the service.
