We are glad to welcome Robert Duncan as the new Associate Director of Youth Ministry! He and his family have been members of AHUMC since 2014. Robert describes his family as being “passionate” about our church. He recalls, “After attending a modern worship service, the warm community of people and the worship music kept us coming back.” The Duncans have four boys—Russell (13), Blake (11), Mitchell (9), and Paul (7).
Meet Robert Duncan
Since graduating from the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001, Robert has worked as a small animal veterinarian. He and his wife, Virginia Nell--also a veterinarian--owned Spring Branch Veterinary Hospital from 2007 – 2016. Although he has enjoyed his non-ownership role at SBVH since selling, he has felt for a while that God had something new in store for him.
After praying and spending time volunteering with the youth ministry, Robert felt called to step into his new role. He sees the youth ministry as a special refuge where kids can come and feel accepted and valued just as they are without pressures they face on a daily basis. He has seen the positive impact youth ministry has had with his sons, Russell and Blake, and loves to see how excited they get about participating. Regarding this new role, he says, “I am most excited about building relationships within the youth group as well as discussing and exploring God together.” In his free time, Robert enjoys playing the drums, exercising, watching football, Bible study, and spending time with family.
Robert will provide support to the youth ministry by focusing on building relationships with our young people through teaching classes and facilitating small groups as well as coordinating service projects and other youth gatherings. We’re excited for all that Robert is going to offer to AHUMC Youth through his gifts of dedication and relationship-building. He will officially start with us in mid-October.
