Thank you all for supporting our Pumpkin Patch in 2023! Because of the congregation and community's efforts, we raised $16,453.57. We are beyond grateful.
Below is a list of ministries that were voted to receive funds from the proceeds raised by the patch. AHUMC has members connected to all the ministries that we are supporting.
Helping AHUMC New Zion and Youth Groups on Mission
The New Zion Choir Group and Youth Ministry are always instrumental in unloading the pumpkins, and their parents also participate in the sales. These groups are both going on mission trips in the summer of 2024, and our donation to their groups will empower them to do ministry in faraway places.
Help for the Dying
Friends of Hospice, San Antonio is an organization that raises awareness of hospice services and raises funds to pay for hospice services for uninsured individuals. They typically pay for around 50 patients to receive hospice care through VNA Hospice and help the patient's family with support in coping with their loved one's care and eventual death.
Help with Vision
I Care Vision Center is a Christian-based organization that provides complete vision care services, including dealing with diabetic retinopathy, cataract surgeries, vision tests, and eyeglasses for low-income, homeless, uninsured, underinsured adults, children, and uninsured vets (and their immediate families).
All of the doctors donate their time to the I Care Clinic. Having good vision can help a person break the poverty cycle by allowing employment, keeping kids in school when they can see the blackboard, and improving self-esteem.
Help for the Incarcerated
Kairos Jail Ministry responds to Christ's call to visit those in prison. This ministry infuses listening, love, forgiveness, and trust—traits seldom embraced in prison. The blessings are life-changing. Donations provide money for training volunteers, housing expenses, food, and supplies for the sixty-member team.
Help for Disabled Adults in San Antonio
Reaching Maximum Independence (RMI) is a wonderful group of about 24 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These young adults attend AHUMC Thursday Lunch Bunch and need funds to continue to attend. They also greatly help the Lunch Bunch volunteers by putting away tables and decorations. RMI's mission is to assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in reaching their maximum level of independence.
Help for Orphans in Mexico
Aleluya Border Ministries cares for and serves the children of Piedras Negras, Mexico, through monthly weekend mission trips for service, prayer, and fellowship. This ministry has an ongoing connection with AHUMC. We also supplied toys for this ministry through our Angel Trees during Advent.
Help Build Children's Literacy (Rio Texas Mission)
Project Transformation has a mission to transform communities by engaging children, college-age young adults, and churches in purposeful relationships. Their ministry builds literacy, social-emotional, and spiritual development for low-income families. AHUMC partners with other local churches to offer reading buddies in summer reading programs for needy children.
Providing Hope for Women and Children (UMC Mission In San Antonio)
Magdalena House is a neighborhood of transitional homes in San Antonio that serves mothers and their children who have fled dangerous and abusive lives. Utilizing a dual-generation approach, the organization provides safe shelter, basic needs, educational programming, and therapeutic services.
Providing Beds for Children in San Antonio
Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a non-profit group in San Antonio and nationwide that provides beds for children in need. They bring light to the fact that beds are a basic need for the proper physical, emotional, and mental support that a child needs. When the organization became aware that the need for beds went far beyond San Antonio's neighborhoods, they stepped up and took the initiative. They're a national organization answering the call to a national problem.
