Greetings from Mission & Outreach

Greetings Church Family! First, I would like to express my gratitude for the many kind words of welcome I have received from so many of you. It is truly a joy and a blessing to be appointed to Alamo Heights UMC as your Pastor of Mission and Outreach. I look forward to serving with you as we seek to take our next faithful steps in service to the Kingdom of God, both individually and corporately.

I have to admit that it is a challenge to start a new position in the middle of a pandemic, and I am longing for the day that we are on the other side of this virus and able to once again physically gather together in Jesus name. In the meantime, with God’s help we will find creative ways of continuing to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in this community. While COVID-19 has impacted how we respond to the world around us, it will not stop us from living out our faith in service to God and humanity.

Just so you know, the Mission & Outreach Committee has continued to meet and make plans for churchwide mission & outreach opportunities even in the midst of this pandemic. The Hope Center continues to provide utility assistance to people in need, especially with so many people out of work because of the virus. A collaborative effort between AHUMC Children’s Ministry, the VBS Mission Project, Lunch Bunch, and Asbury is helping fund school supplies and face masks for summer school students at Rogers Elementary, and soon you will be receiving information regarding a “back to school supply drive” for our friends at Rogers. We will also be providing school uniforms and shoe gift cards with the offerings you gave during the Lenten season. AHUMC is answering the call to share the love and compassion of Jesus with all people.

Throughout the year we will be providing you with information regarding opportunities to serve others in the community as needs arise. There is one such opportunity right now for those of you who are not in a vulnerable population. The San Antonio Food Bank is in dire need of volunteers to help get food to people. Again, it is a joy and a blessing to be your Pastor of Mission & Outreach. My family and I are thrilled to be here, and we look forward to getting to know more of you in the days and months ahead. If God has placed a desire to be in mission & outreach upon your heart please reach out to me here, and we will strive together to fulfill the will and plan of God for our lives.

In Christ,

Robert
