PRAYER + SUPPORT
We join our hearts with all concerned and broken over the devastating news of those lost and missing due to flooding in the Hill Country yesterday. Our own church community has experienced loss due to this tragedy. We grieve and pray together.
Our pastoral staff and prayer team are available for prayer and support as we all navigate the days ahead.
ACTION
UMCOR also appreciates the donation of Hygiene Kits. Providing basic necessities to those who are most vulnerable during times of crisis. Hygiene Kits are distributed during disasters, whether socio-economic or as the result of a natural occurrence.
We are not ready to mobilize volunteers yet; please do not self-deploy.
Now is the time to prepare. Early Response Team (ERT) training equips volunteers to offer safe, effective, and compassionate help in times of disaster. Flood survivors need more than supplies—they need compassionate, prepared helpers who can be trusted with their homes and their hope.
Please consider taking part in one of these upcoming training opportunities:
OPTION 1: RECERTIFICATION TRAINING (ONLINE)
Date: Wednesday, July 10
Time: 6—9 p.m.
Location: Zoom
Purpose: For individuals whose ERT badge expired within the last six months.
OPTION 2: BASIC ERT TRAINING (HYBRID)
Part I (Zoom)
Date: Tuesday, July 9
Time: 6—9 p.m.
Part II (Hands-On)
Date: Saturday, July 12
(may be completed by deploying with an active team)
Location: TBD based on registrations
(details will be shared during Part 1)
Purpose: Prepares new volunteers to safely assist with flood cleanup—including proper techniques for cleaning out flooded homes and tarping roofs.
Let us continue to lift our neighbors in prayer, trusting that even in the midst of devastation, divine light shines through our love, generosity, and courage. May we be a sign of hope and healing for every affected community.
