Our mission and outreach efforts through Mission Central is making a meaningful difference. Our community is taking notice. We are excited to share that AHUMC has been awarded a $10,000 donation from Methodist Healthcare Ministries (MHM) to help address food insecurity in San Antonio.
As many of you know, our Wesley Nurse, Sonia Serna, serves on our campus each day. Her office is located in the West Wing, and she is always available to offer compassionate care, helpful resources, and support to those in need. Sonia is employed by MHM, which recently asked all of its Wesley Nurses to share how they are serving their communities through food ministries.
Sonia highlighted AHUMC's monthly Food & Prayer Support initiative, where we provide 20–25 grocery bags each month to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. On the third Wednesday of every month from 5 to 6 p.m., a dedicated team of volunteers gathers to distribute these bags and offer prayer to each recipient.
Each grocery bag contains approximately $35 worth of food, including fresh bread, tortillas, and chicken. While the food meets an important physical need, the prayers shared have become an equally meaningful blessing—for both those who receive them and those who offer them.
We are deeply grateful to MHM for partnering with us as we live into our identity as a Christian community of love, hope, and belonging for all. This generous gift will help us continue to Welcome all people, Build community, Share God's love, and Serve the world.
