Board of Stewards Update: May 2022
Kitty Meyers, Board Chair
Greetings to all. The May Board of Stewards meeting was held on Thursday, May 19 with glad tidings and melancholy feelings. Roger Lind, chair of the AHUMC Foundation, nominated Paul Darr to fill a Foundation board vacancy. That motion was approved by the Church board. Valerie Slade presented the financials for the month and current year. Even with lower-than-expected revenues for the month of April, the financials continue to be ahead of budget for the year. The number of weddings continues to rebound as people gather more. The staff continues to manage the expenses through controlled spending.
The Trustee committee was happy to report the tentative sale of the Asbury property. The sale is under contract with a period of due diligence to finalize the details and close the sale. Carr Hornbuckle, Trustee chair, also advised that a broker has been contracted for the lease of the section of the corner parking lot at Peter Baque and Nottingham. With this lease, the church will have a steady stream of revenue.
The board was also updated on major construction to begin on May 30th. The stretch of Basse Road in front of the church will be repaved. It will take approximately three weeks to complete. Please make alternate route plans to access the church parking lot to avoid the construction and traffic on that busy stretch of Basse.
Pastor Holly closed the meeting with words of support and encouragement as this was her last board meeting. The board presented her with a smaller version of our new AHUMC logo cross. The board thanked Holly for her ministries and wished her the best in her new posting.
As an additional note, the church’s delegation to the 2022 Rio Texas Annual Conference will depart for McAllen, TX on June 7. We are planning to provide a report of the conference in an upcoming Weekly Stories e-mail newsletter. For those interested in viewing the proceedings online, you can register to view for free via WHOVA. Guest registration is free and available until June 1.
