The Board of Stewards met for the June meeting. It was marvelous to see everyone in person for the first time in months. Thanks be to God for this blessing. After the preliminary admin duties, Valerie Slade provided the financial update. While the May revenues fell a little short of expectation, the yearly revenues continue to be slightly ahead. General donations are up from the same period in 2019, before the pandemic. Expenses continue to be monitored very closely. The staff’s conservative attitude toward expenses continues to keep the church’s financial outlook positive. The continued support of the AHUMC Foundation is a blessing.
Senior Pastor Holly Gotelli briefed the board on the outcome of the worship survey. The congregation had the opportunity to provide information that was used to craft the fall worship schedule. The folks attending the Modern Worship in the CLC on Sunday mornings also offered more information through a discussion following a June Sunday morning service. All in all, many had the opportunity to provide information that staff used to develop options for the board to consider. The result was a schedule of Sunday worship opportunities for all in both morning and evening. The variety is amazing. The board approved, and the staff is working on the rollout of the calendar. The new schedule will be in place for Sunday, August 15.
Carr Hornbuckle, Chair of the Trustee Committee, presented the report on the Asbury campus. There have been security issues with vandalism and break-ins. The maintenance issues are a concern as the number and repair costs are increasing. The committee and staff have been charged with the task of evaluating the building condition. The situation continues to be the ability to support Pastor Luis, the Asbury congregation, and the surrounding community with the warmth and spiritual needs paramount.
Please pray for guidance and wisdom as these concerns are addressed and plans are developed for long-term solutions.
The board will not meet during the month of July.
