A Letter From the New Modern Worship & Technical Arts Associate Director

Hey Everyone!

My name is Sarah Ortiz, and I’m thrilled to be stepping into this new season with Alamo Heights United Methodist Church. Music has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in the church and playing in different worship bands over the years really shaped my love for music. I’m especially thankful for the mentors and church leaders who poured into me along the way.

Before joining Alamo Heights in 2019, I served as the Worship Director at Asbury United Methodist Church, a satellite campus of AHUMC, where I had the opportunity to work alongside my father, Rev. Dr. Robert Ortiz. Since coming to AHUMC, I’ve loved being part of a church community that values worship, creativity, and authentic connection.

I graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio in May 2023 with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications. I’m also furthering my studies through Berklee College of Music’s online program, where I’m studying live performance software and continuing to grow my technical and creative skills. Outside of ministry, I work in music production and sync licensing, collaborating with recording artists and composing for television and film.

You can find me behind the keyboard on Sunday mornings with the Modern Worship Band! It means a lot to me to help create worship experiences that encourage others and make space for meaningful connection with God. I believe music has a unique ability to bring people together, uplift hearts, and glorify God. Being able to use my creativity in different ways is something I’m really grateful for in this next season, as it continues to stretch and inspire me. I look forward to continuing to serve through worship and I’m thankful to be part of all that God is doing through AHUMC!
