The Season of Lent at AHUMC
The Season of Lent at AHUMC
All are invited into this season of reflection and preparation that begins on Ash Wednesday (March 5) and concludes on Holy Saturday (April 19).
The word Lent refers to the "lengthening" days of the Spring season and its 40 day observance is a time of self-examination, repentance, and fasting in preparation for the coming of Easter.

ASH WEDNESDAY
March 5
Ash Wednesday commemorates and enacts the ever-expanding cycle of life whereby we follow the Christ from death to new life. That which needs to die becomes the nutrient-rich ash in which new life can grow.
We will have drive-thru “Ashes To Go” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There will also be two worship services:
7 a.m. - Prayer & Ashes in the Garden Chapel
7 p.m. - Worship in the Sanctuary
All are welcome!
40 Cans for 40 Days
March 5—April 18
During the season of Lent, we commemorate both the Israelite's 40 years and Jesus' 40 days in the wilderness as we prepare for the coming of Resurrection Sunday.
Traditionally, people observe this time of preparation by fasting or abstaining from certain activities, foods, or habits.
We would like to invite you to partner with us in one of AHUMC's Lenten practices. As you go through 40 days of preparation, we’d hope you will join us in prayer for the Hope Center. We also ask that you will consider donating a can of food for each of the 40 days of Lent.
EASTER LILIES
Order until April 6th
Each year we adorn the Sanctuary and the Christian Life Center (CLC) with Easter lilies. Plants and flowers in our worship spaces, including our Easter lilies, are not included in the yearly budget, so we rely on your generosity to provide them.
Lilies can be given in memory or in honor of a beloved family member or friend. Envelopes for giving will be available at the reception desk, at the entrances of the Sanctuary and the CLC, and in the pews of the Sanctuary.
Completed envelopes can be put in the offering plates on Sunday, or left with the receptionist during the week, or mailed to Leah Jayne at the church.
HEALING SERVICE
March 25
Service in the Garden Chapel | 6:30 p.m.
The root of the word "healing" in New Testament Greek, sozo, is the same as that of salvation and wholeness. We are offered balance, harmony, and wholeness of body, mind, spirit, and relationships through confession, forgiveness, and reconciliation.
Healing is not magic, but underlying it is the great mystery of God's love. God does not promise that we shall be spared suffering but does promise to be with us in our suffering. All are invited to trust in that promise as we gather to recognize God's sustaining presence in pain, sickness, injury, and estrangement.
TAIZÉ SERVICE
March 12
Service in the Garden Chapel | 6:30 p.m.
Please join us for this meditative prayer service that features singing, scripture, and silence in the Taizé style of worship.
All are welcome.
PALM SUNDAY
April 13
Join us on Palm Sunday for a special day of worship with a slightly different schedule.
8:30 a.m. - Sanctuary Service
11 a.m. - Modern Service with Palm Procession
11 a.m. - Sanctuary Service with Palm Procession
12 p.m. - Egg Hunt and Picnic
EGG HUNT
April 13
Egg Hunt begins 12 p.m.
Join us for a fun morning of activities for kids, a photo booth, and an egg hunt for toddlers thru 5th grade.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO HELP?
We need LOTS of eggs!
Bring your filled eggs to the Atrium or Children's Wing by Sunday, April 6.
MAUNDY THURSDAY
April 17
Sanctuary Service | 7 p.m.
Maundy Thursday gets its name from the Latin word "mandatum," meaning "commandment."
On this day we remember the emancipation of the Israelites from Egypt and the Last Supper, when Jesus washed the feet of the disciples and called us to be people of love.
Worship includes Holy Communion.
Childcare is available for children under age 10.
JOURNEY TO THE CROSS
April 18
Beginning in the AHUMC Atrium | 10 a.m.—12 p.m.
Join us for this multi-sensory experience beginning in the Atrium and continuing throughout the East Wing. Each station will explore a specific event during Holy Week. This hands-on, guided experience is a beautiful way for families of all ages and sizes to Journey to the Cross together.
All are welcome.
GOOD FRIDAY
April 18
Sanctuary Service | 7 p.m.
On Good Friday, we are prepared for the mystery of Easter as we remember the great love and sacrifice of Jesus.
New Zion Youth Choir will lead us through the story of Christ's suffering and death on the cross.
Childcare is available for children under age 10.
