Listening Sessions with the Board of Stewards

November 14, 2022

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We want to thank everyone who attended or has watched last Thursday evening's meeting with Kendall Waller. We have all learned more about differences within the United Methodist Church, and the positions some congregations have taken that have prompted them to leave the UMC.

Kendall explained that the formal Discernment Process, outlined by the United Methodist Church, is a specific effort intended for congregations who are questioning whether to disaffiliate, or leave the UMC. Because that is the reason for the Discernment Process, we do not believe this is the right step for AHUMC to take.

As your Board of Stewards, we want to re-state our own strong desire, and the desire of our clergy and staff, for AHUMC to remain a United Methodist Church.

Instead, we as a Board want to work together with the congregation to address the needs and concerns of our entire church. Beginning this week, members of the Board of Stewards will begin hosting Listening Sessions. We are hosting these Sessions to allow members to share feedback with the Board, ask questions, and learn more about the ongoing activities here at AHUMC.

Listening Sessions will be held on Wednesday, November 16 and Wednesday, November 30

from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Parlor. More dates will be planned in the weeks ahead.

Additionally, the Board will be conducting its monthly business meeting this Thursday, November 17 at 5:30 pm in the Parlor. All church members are invited to attend this regularly held meeting.

Everyone at AHUMC wants to continue honoring the legacy of those who have made Alamo

Heights United Methodist Church a beloved home for friends and families, for the past 112 years. Together, let's continue to welcome all people, build community, share God's love, and serve the world.

In Christ,

Members of the Alamo Heights UMC Board of Stewards

Kathryn "Kitty" Meyers, Chair

Members: Scott Boynton, Carol Cauley, Dale Clark, Dianne Dorsett, Frank Guerra, Carr Hornbuckle, Charles Johnson, David Kinder, Roger Lind, Brian Nash, Lydia Ponce, Jack Rodgers, Dan St. Romain
