Helping Neighbors Weather the Storm

Once again, when an immediate need arose, our congregation showed up!

Last Friday morning, we made an urgent call for non-perishable food and bottled water to help families in the community who lacked the basic essentials after the devastating winter storm. Our congregation responded with compassion and showed what it means to help our neighbors in need.

Enough food was collected that afternoon to fill 200 bags! "I'm so grateful for the generous and quick response of the congregation. At AHUMC we talk a lot about loving our neighbor, sharing God's love with others, and serving our community. In fact, our new Statement of Purpose says one of the reasons the church exists is to ‘serve the world.’ So it was wonderful to see the congregation put that commitment into practice by serving our hungry neighbors in the name of Christ," said Pastor Holly Gotelli.

Over 85 bags were distributed by staff and ministry partners on Saturday morning to those in our Asbury community who were hit hardest by the storm and its effects. More bags were given out by Pastor Luis Perez the next day and remaining bags will be used for Asbury’s Food and Prayer ministry.

Pastor Luis said, “I want to thank the members of Alamo Heights for coming together to supply enough food to help over 85 families and counting. The community that surrounds Asbury was so thankful and it truly made an impact in their lives. Because of Alamo Heights' members, people were able to experience God’s love and grace in a time of need. Thank you so much for your generosity.”
