30 YEARS ON BASSE
PART 1
Matt Scott
Former AHUMC executive pastor Matt Scott begins our 30th Anniversary video series with a story of how his father, the late Bob Scott, helped build the church while envisioning what it could do for future generations.
Matt was born and raised in the AHUMC community. After graduating from seminary, Matt served as a member of our pastoral staff for over a decade. The Scott family have been members of AHUMC since 1973. Matt's parents Bob and Nora Scott were instrumental leaders in embracing the challenging move to Basse Road.
PART 2
Bill Balthrope
Bill and Sue Balthrope are lifelong members of AHUMC. As the mayor of Alamo Heights, Bill played an integral role when the church moved from Broadway to Basse Road.
PART 3
Melvin Mitchell
Melvin and Yeola Mitchell joined the church in 1969. In 1992, Senior Pastor Jack Hooper asked Melvin and his company G.W. Mitchell and Sons to be the general contractors for the construction of a new campus for AHUMC.
PART 4
Rev. Donna Strieb
Donna Lee Strieb is an ordained Deacon in the United Methodist Church and has served on the staff of AHUMC since October 1, 1980 in various capacities with children, youth, and adults. She remembers both the last Sunday at the Broadway campus and the first day of worship on Basse Road.
PART 5
Danny Mills
Danny has been a member of AHUMC since 1982 and has worn a number of different hats during that time. He led an exercise program for staff and parishoners at the Broadway campus, served on the board of the AHUMC Foundation, and has been an usher for over 30 years. Danny was also serving as the Chair of the Finance Committee when AHUMC aquired the Basse Road property.

Carol Bray
Carol and Clarence Bray have been members of AHUMC for over 53 years—volunteering and leading in a number of different roles. In addition to serving in Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, Music Ministry, and the Seekers Sunday School class, Carol volunteered on the building committee for the Basse Road campus and was instrumental in planning for the construction of the pipe organ in the sanctuary.
PART 7
Jane Mowrey
Jane and Gary Mowrey raised their family at AHUMC. Jane joined the the Parent's Day Out program as a teacher in 1989. Her service and leadership as director helped transform our part-time program into a full-time preschool dedicated to offering opportunites for children to grow intellectually, physically, socially, and spiritually. Jane served in and led the Weekday School she helped to build for over forty years. Jane also mentored young parents—helping them to navigate the difficult and uncertain situations that can come with parenthood. She loves music and has been a faithful member of the sanctuary choir for decades.

Ruth Ann Lind
Ruth Ann Lind served as AHUMC's Director of Music for 37 years, during which she inspired and encouraged people to share their musical gifts in worship and fellowship. She worked with all age groups, leading music for the weekday school at the Broadway church and guiding our children’s music program, where kids could explore and develop their musical talents. Along with the organist at the time, Ruth Ann helped establish the Summer Sounds Music Camp. She also started the New Zion Youth Choir and directed both our Handbell Choir and the Sanctuary Choir. Through these ensembles, Ruth Ann ensured that their musical contributions added depth and beauty to our worship services. Ruth Ann and her husband, Roger, have been members of our church community for 44 years.
