About Pastoral Care

Support through Hardships

We offer support in daily living and at times of need or crisis. We always want to hear from members when life changes occur. It is our hope that we can be helpful in walking with you through the difficult task of making sense of life’s challenges and finding a way forward. You are not alone.

Hospital Visits

When you or a loved one are at your most vulnerable, we want to be a place where you can turn for support. If you know about an procedure beforehand, let us know so we can care for you.

Spiritual Guidance

When you need to help on your spiritual journey or find yourself in a spiritual rut, we're here for you. Growing as a disciple of Christ involves questioning. We welcome the skeptics, the outcasts, and the excluded, and hope to help you find your home here.

Referrals

While we desire to be there for you during all parts of your life, sometimes other professional services might be able better meet your needs. When this is the case, we strive to connect you with the appropriate services. Let us know what type of help you need, and we will point you in the right direction.

Counseling Ministry

Providing professional counseling within a Christian environment for church members and the community

Cheryl Dunn, LCSW

About the Counseling Ministry

Why is a Counseling Ministry offered through the church?

Spirituality and therapy work together to heal and to help persons become whole. Therapy can help people understand the beliefs, conscious and unconscious, that impact their lives and relationships. This understanding can help them make changes to better their lives.

How does it work?

Therapy will be solution-focused and goal oriented. The therapist acts as an agent for positive change in the client's life. If desired, you can be referred to other professionals or agencies in the community.

Who does the counseling?

Our Staff Counselor is Cheryl Dunn, LCSW, She also can provide a referral to other therapists in the community who are experts in the fields of medical and mental health issues.

What is the cost?

The fee for a one-hour therapy session is $90. We can offer a reduced fee based on a sliding scale. You are responsible for the fee at the time of the appointment. Insurance is not accepted, however we will provide a receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider.

How to make an appointment

All sessions with Cheryl Dunn are held at the church. Call Cheryl at (210) 826-3215, ext. 163 to schedule an appointment or for additional information.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry is the one-to-one lay caring ministry equip and empower lay caregivers—called Stephen Ministers—to provide high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to people who are hurting.

Who is a Stephen Minister?

A Stephen Minister is trained to provide distinctively Christian care for people going through difficult times. A Stephen Minister is not a counselor or therapist, but offers one-on-one confidential care.  They are sometimes referred to as “The After People”: after your friends have heard your story one too many times, after divorce papers have been served, after doctors have said, “There’s nothing more we can do”.

Become a Stephen Minister

If you have the gift of caring and helping others, consider going through Stephen Ministry training.  Training is offered periodically and covers topics like listening skills, depression, death and dying, divorce, hospitalization, and suicide.  You will learn life skills that will enable you to help those in need and at the end of the training you will be commissioned to serve in the congregation.
