Being an acolyte is a ministry of service - not a performance.
Being an acolyte is being a leader in worship and helping the pastors.
Being an acolyte is a commitment to serve in church once a month.
Being an acolyte is being a part of a team and community.

The Acolyte Ministry is for children grades 4 & 5. Training acolytes is not just about teaching children how to light the candles on Sunday mornings.  It is a ministry which introduces our children to worship and communicates the importance of their service to the Lord and the church.  It is a unique learning experience which can make a difference in the rest of their lives.

Our main goal in the acolyte program is worship education.  It is our desire that the acolytes come away from their time in the program with a knowledge of the acts and rituals of worship and their meaning.  By first understanding the acts of worship and then practicing and participating in these acts, the entire worship experience becomes more meaningful.  It is also our goal to encourage children in their service to the church.  Acolyte Ministry is a ministry of service, they serve by assisting others.

Acolytes at AHUMC serve once a month from September-May. There is a training for all acolytes each year in August.
